Graduation time is upon us. I was blessed to be able to attend my own son-in-law’s graduation, as well as my daughter-in-law’s from BYU a few weeks ago. We are so proud of them, and all that they have accomplished in their lives. Go Cougars!
Easy DIY Graduation Keepsake Box
If you are looking for a quick and easy graduation idea, you can’t go wrong with a DIY graduation keepsake box. Something that will allow the graduate to store their tassel, cap, class ring, etc…
Now, I am all for building a box with my own two hands. But I also know that graduation season is a busy time of year for all of us. So I decided on something that would be very simple for everyone to make in less then an hours time (not including dry time).
- Wooden Box
- Wood Stain
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
- Scrapbook Paper
Step 1: Take all the stickers off the box and apply the wood stain around the sides, bottom and inside of box. You do not need to stain the top.
Step 2: Once the stain is dry you will need to cut your scrapbook paper into a variety of different shaped strips and pieces.
Step 3: Mod Podge the strips and pieces onto the top of the box so that none of the box is showing. You can do a thin layer of mod podge on the bare wood to help the pieces stick down and then mod podge again over the top of all the scrapbook paper pieces.
Step 4: Add stickers around the box and mod podge over the top of them.
Step 5: Let dry.
There is no right or wrong way to make the graduation keepsake box. The boxes can be any size (Hobby Lobby has a large selection). You can use a variety of scrapbook paper and do all the sides and forgo the staining. You can stain the whole box and just add a few stickers here and there. The choice is yours. Have fun with it.
